, a new church was built in 1714 and significatly in 1887 a new tower added on behalf of local benefactor Sir William Cunliffe Brooks.

It is this very timber framed tower that needs your help, with an estimated restoration cost of £200,000. Please go to our Donation page to support our appeal.

The story of Saint Martin has inspired Christians for nearly two thousand years. Martin was an officer and a Christian in the mainly pagan Roman army, he
took pity on a simple beggar freezing to death by the wayside, removed his cloak and cut it in half giving the beggar a chance of survival in the bitter winter snowstorm.
That same night Martin saw a vision of Christ in a dream, He was wearing the half of the cloak previously given to the beggar and commended him for his act of charity.
Martin later resigned his post in the Roman army still only 18 years old and preached Christianity until his death in 395 AD aged 80.
